Dr Philip Makepeace
Credentials and Experience
Dr Philip Makepeace was born in the UK in 1960, but largely grew up in Brisbane, having immigrated with his parents and siblings in 1968 and eventually taking Australian citizenship in 1978 while undertaking his first year of undergraduate dentistry at Qld University.
Graduating BDSc in 1982, Dr Makepeace entered four years of service as a dentist with the Qld School Dental Service, first providing care to Far North Qld townships and indigenous communities, and then to the school population of Bundaberg and surrounds.
From 1987 until merging with Totally Smiles in 2018, he owned and managed a successful and popular general dental practice in Bundaberg, relocating twice to increasingly mission-driven and purpose-designed premises.
Along the way, he immersed himself in extensive continuing education that has allowed him to bring a wide range of dentistry to the regional community, gaining particular experience with dental implants, hard and soft tissue lasers and, most recently, gaining a post-graduate diploma in orthodontics.
Dr Makepeace is also a Fellow of the International Academy for Dento-Facial Esthetics, a prestigious invitation-only honour.
Dr Makepeace terminated his dental supply agreement (FASA) with Smiles in April 2020. He remains a Smiles JVP partner. He retains a high level of commitment to the company through his ongoing JVP association and as a shareholder.
With an unwavering commitment to transparent governance, Dr Makepeace is committed to implementing fact-based strategies to drive the best outcomes for all Smiles stakeholders.
